Naminooto Brewing Announces Limited-Time Coffee IPA Created with Takamura
Naminooto Brewing on Awaji Island has unveiled a limited-edition beer, "Coffee IPA," created in collaboration with Takamura Coffee Roasters, a specialty coffee shop. The beer uses award-winning Brazilian beans and Awaji Island salt, layering the character of coffee and beer into one finished brew.
One Brew Where Coffee and Beer Overlap
Born from a collaboration with Takamura Coffee Roasters, this "Coffee IPA" layers the character of coffee beans with the aroma of hops. It uses high-quality Brazilian beans that won 17th place in "TASTE OF HARVEST Brazil," which were lightly roasted and reportedly used generously in the brewing process.
Its flavor is defined by a moderate bitterness from the coffee and a clean, ice-coffee-like nuance. On top of that, the fruity character and grassy freshness from the hops come through, while the finish leaves behind a caramel-like roastiness. As a hidden accent, a pinch of "Ojizushizuku Salt" from Awaji Island is added. The salt smooths out the overall mouthfeel and brings out the contours of the ingredients.
Craftsmanship from Minamiawaji
Naminooto Brewing is a brewery based in Minamiawaji, Hyogo Prefecture. It is known for continuing to make beers that showcase ingredients from Awaji Island, and for releasing more than one new beer a month. Its original labels, designed by an in-house designer, are also popular, and the brewery has consistently introduced craft beers with a strong regional identity.
For this collaboration as well, staff from Takamura visited the brewery on the day of brewing and took part in the production process. The spent grain produced after brewing is reportedly being used as feed at a poultry farm on Awaji Island. This commitment to making full use of every ingredient aligns with the collaboration's approach of communicating value that includes the background of the coffee beans themselves. With quantities limited, this is a beer that will catch the attention of both coffee lovers and beer lovers alike.
