TSUBAME BEER from Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, won a silver award at the international judging competition "International Beer Cup 2025." The award went to "TSUBAME CRAFT Pear WHITE ALE," brewed with pears from local Kosugi Farm. The brewery’s approach of making the most of regional ingredients was recognized on both domestic and international stages.
The craft brewery "TSUBAME BEER" in Tsubame, Niigata, announced on November 21, 2025 that it had placed at the International Beer Cup 2025. The award-winning beer was "TSUBAME CRAFT Pear WHITE ALE," which uses pears from Kosugi Farm in Tsubame City as a supplementary ingredient. It competed in the Belgian-Style Fruit Beer category and received silver.
The cup is an international judging competition with breweries from Japan and abroad taking part. In its announcement, TSUBAME BEER described this result as "not the goal, but the starting line," and said it would continue aiming for gold while refining beers that people can enjoy every day.
A defining feature of TSUBAME BEER is its locally rooted approach, which translates the character of Tsubame into beer. Its base is AOUZE BASE in Aouzu, Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture. The brewery emphasizes partnerships with local agricultural producers and farmers; for example, some items in its lineup use Koshihikari rice grown by local farmers. These ingredient choices are discussed not simply as "local production for local consumption," but as part of a regional circulation model connecting agriculture, manufacturing, and services.
Fruit beers often draw attention for their bright aromas, but to earn recognition in judging, the balance between the underlying beer design and the expression of the fruit is essential. This silver award shows that a beer carrying the story of Tsubame also stands on its own as a valid style.
TSUBAME BEER has begun building a track record at world-standard competitions by using local ingredients and technique as its strengths. As its next move, attention will turn to how its seasonal releases and agricultural collaborations evolve.
