Hitachino Brewing Lab Tokyo Station Now Serving Limited "Sakura Stout"
At Hitachino Brewing Lab Tokyo Station, draft service has begun for the limited beer "Sakura Stout." This black beer is finished by reusing cherry casks that were used to age Hinomaru Whisky, and it is characterized by woody, cask-derived aromas and acidity, along with the sweet-bitter flavor typical of dark beer.
At the beer pub "Hitachino Brewing Lab Tokyo Station," located on the 2nd floor of GranRoof at Tokyo Station, the limited beer "Sakura Stout" is being served.
According to guidance from Hitachino Brewing, which operates the shop, this "Sakura Stout" is a limited release that has returned for the second year in a row. It is made by aging a rich dark beer in cherry casks that were previously used to mature Hinomaru Whisky, resulting in a finish that combines complex cask-derived aromas and acidity with the sweet bitterness characteristic of dark beer.
Service is draft-only. Since it is poured into a glass on the spot rather than bottled, you can enjoy the rise of the aroma and the changes in mouthfeel more directly. The combination of a stout with a strong balance of sweetness and bitterness, layered with notes from the cherry casks, should appeal not only to dark-beer fans but also to those following cask-aged beers.
Hitachino Brewing Lab Tokyo Station is also attractive as a beer pub that is easy to drop into because it sits along the transfer routes at Tokyo Station. Being able to try a limited dark beer while feeling the world of Hitachino Nest Beer before or after using the station is a pleasure unique to this location. "Sakura Stout," which can only be enjoyed on draft, is the kind of beer you will want to grab when you see it.
