The beer pub Beer House Hobbit in Hirakata, Osaka, has introduced its recommended food and draft lineup for Friday, May 22. As expected from the shop’s basic concept, it serves domestic craft beer on draft along with overseas beer, and on this day the food lineup was especially substantial.
The star of the day was pork kakuni simmered in craft beer. In the post, it was described as a melt-in-your-mouth dish that avoids cloying sweetness while preserving the rich flavor of the meat. Alongside that, the fresh vegetable plate included “tempura of big black shimeji mushrooms,” “mizuna and raw garland chrysanthemum salad,” “Carol Seven,” and “seasonal vegetables marinated in dashi,” making it a lineup designed as beer accompaniments.
For the main-dish side, there were two kinds of choose-your-own clay-pot cooked rice ball onigiri. The standard “sea bream” version and the seasonal “new onion & asparagus” version, which brings out the flavor of the vegetables, were available. Other offerings included “Freshly fried! New potato chips,” “pan-seared Japanese beef round steak served as a salad,” “eggplant, zucchini, and asparagus tempura,” “Spicy! Taiwanese-style fried chicken,” and “beef sirloin steak,” making it a lineup that worked as a full meal as well.
There were six draft beers on the day. For beer fans, the lineup alone is enjoyable to look at.
- Choryo Shuzo (Nara) / Rice Lager
- Kyoto Brewing Company (Kyoto) / Shigoku Toden
- Choryo Shuzo (Nara) / Wakyou - Sake Lees Yuzu White
- Naminooto Brewing (Hyogo) / Circle
- Kyoto Brewing Company (Kyoto) / Juichi Juichi Ju
- Hirakata Beer (Osaka) / Session Citra White
Including local Osaka brewer Hirakata Beer, the appeal of the day was the range of neighboring breweries from Nara, Kyoto, and Hyogo. Using craft beer in the food while also connecting local flavors through the draft lineup inside the shop is exactly the kind of idea Beer House Hobbit is known for.
The post also announced “Ore no Curry” by staff member Unno on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30. As a place where you can enjoy pairing the daily food with draft beer, it is one to remember when you want to drink craft beer in Hirakata.
