Mamemame Beer Releases the Latest SHODOSHIMA100 Batch Made Entirely with Shodoshima Ingredients
Mamemame Beer, a brewpub in Shodoshima, Kagawa, has released the latest bottled batch of SHODOSHIMA100, a beer made with 100% locally sourced Shodoshima ingredients, including malted barley, fresh hops and olive flower yeast.
A beer shaped by Shodoshima’s local ingredients
Mamemame Beer in Sakate, Shodoshima Town, Kagawa, is offering the latest bottled batch of SHODOSHIMA100. Brewed by Mamemame Beer Brewery, the beer uses Shodoshima-grown malted barley, hops and sesame, creating a distinctly local expression of the island.
The malt comes from barley grown in the Ikisue area. After harvesting, the grain is sun-dried, sorted and tested before being sent to a malting facility outside the island. The brewery says the process takes more than a year from sowing the barley to its return as malt.
The hops are also sourced from Ikisue, with a small amount grown in the brewery’s garden. Fresh hops harvested from early summer through the beginning of autumn contribute to the beer’s aroma.
SHODOSHIMA100 also uses olive flower yeast from Yamahisa. Because of this yeast, the beer is categorized as a freestyle beer. Its fermentation and finished profile may recall a lager, while a soft, distinctive floral aroma sets it apart.
The result is clean and easy-drinking, with enough character to express Shodoshima without overpowering a meal. It has an ABV of 5%. The beer is available at Mamemame Beer Brewery & Restaurant, with additional sales announced for an event in Ikisue.
For visitors exploring Shodoshima, SHODOSHIMA100 offers a direct taste of the island’s agriculture, ingredients and brewing culture in one bottle.
