18 Guest Beers on Display
The Untappd board linked to TAP&GROWLER Shimokitazawa's official website showed 18 beers on the day's lineup. In the bustling, eclectic atmosphere that feels so Shimokitazawa, the selection lets you compare a broad range of styles all at once, from classic lagers to hazy IPAs, gose, porters, and black IPAs.
What stands out in particular is Kyoto Brewing's "DRINK ME!". Introduced as TAP&GROWLER's 8th anniversary brew, it is a hazy IPA made with rye and oats. The design layers a fresh, berry-and-melon character with resinous aromas, giving it the presence you'd expect from a commemorative beer. The following "DRINK ME ~WEST COAST PILSNER Ver.~" (Yellow Beer Works) is also intriguing as a different take on the same name.
If you want to enjoy the contours of hops, UCHU BREWING's "Galactic Path," West Coast Brewing's "Triple Cone," and Totopia Brewery's "Boxphobia" are all strong additions. There are also enjoyable contrasts to compare in beers like GROUNDTAP BREWERY's "TSUTSUJI," Taros Brewing's "As You Feel," and Novoru Brewing's "Musubu."
If you're after acidity or malt character, don't miss Kyufuku Brewing Honjima's "005 Fuku Setouchi Gose w/ Oomi Kinkan (Setouchi Gose with Oomi Kinkan)", Minoh Beer’s "Session Black IPA," or Miyazaki Hideji Beer’s "Kuri Kuro (Dark Chestnut Ale)." On the lager side, Riot Beer’s "Rooster," Hino Brewing Co.'s "Shishimai Porter," and Kakegawa Farm Brewing's "8 Bit" are also on the board, offering a wide range to choose from depending on your mood.
The shop is located on the first floor of Iijima Building, 2-33-6 Kitazawa, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. Conveniently located near Shimokitazawa Station, it offers the ease of use you'd expect from a beer pub along with the fast turnover of guest beers. On days when a label catches your eye, it seems best to work through a few glasses while sampling different styles.
