Weekly Bar Food

THE FARMHOUSE is the direct beer pub run by Tamamura Honten, the brewery behind Shiga Kogen Beer, in the Kamibayashi Onsen area of Yamanouchi, Nagano. The place is known for pairing beer with food.

In its July 10 Instagram post, the pub introduced three weekly dishes. One highlight is the horse-meat stew braised with Shiga Kogen Porter. The porter’s roasted malt character adds depth to the meat, making the beer part of the dish rather than just a side note. Suggested pairings include Shiga Kogen IPA, which clears the palate with bitterness, and Yama-bushi red, which brings fruitiness and acidity.

The salted-kelp potato salad is a lighter plate made without mayonnaise and finished with kelp umami and sesame oil. It should work well with beers such as from scratch and Yama-bushi Saison One 壱, both of which fit a food-first table. The post also mentions boiled soybeans, pickled vegetables made with Enki sake lees, and a baked cheesecake topped with blueberry compote picked from the garden, so the lineup stretches from snacks to dessert.

What stands out is how THE FARMHOUSE keeps the beer list expressive while still treating food as the anchor. It is a place where a porter, an IPA, a Yama-bushi beer, and a blonde ale can all be chosen with a meal in mind.
