Onomichi Brewery is a brewpub in Kubo, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Housed in a storehouse with a history of more than 120 years that has been renovated, it is appealing for the chance to taste beer straight from the tank. Its lineup includes regionally inspired brews such as Onomichi Ale, which brings out the character of Onomichi-grown lemons, and Shimanami Golden Ale, made with mandarins from Onomichi, letting the feel of Onomichi itself come through in the glass.

This time, the beer brewed after a long interval was Mashiro Coffee Porter. It is a coffee beer made with beans specially roasted for this brew by Mashiro Coffee Beans in Mukaishima, Onomichi City, and its defining trait is said to be an aroma that evokes cold-brew coffee. While keeping the heaviness often associated with dark beers in check, it lets you fully enjoy the roasted aroma, making it a beer that appeals not only to beer lovers but also to coffee lovers.

Onomichi Brewery also offers clearly distinctive beers such as Cucumber Saison, notable for its refreshing cucumber character, and Iwagojima Tomato Weizen, which incorporates regional ingredients. In all cases, the brewery's style is to highlight the character of its ingredients while staying within a “easy to drink and makes you want another” direction. If you stop by during a stroll through Onomichi, you can enjoy craft beer with the temperature and atmosphere of a place close to the brewing process, rather than just a drink at a tourist spot.
