Takamura Coffee Roasters and Nami no Oto Brewing Release Coffee IPA
Takamura Coffee Roasters, based in Edobori, Osaka and Awaji Island, will release a limited beer called “Coffee IPA” on April 14 in collaboration with Nami no Oto Brewing in Minamiawaji City. Made with award-winning Brazilian beans and salt from Awaji Island, it is a beer whose aroma and drinkability were carefully designed.
A limited release where coffee and hops overlap
From the collaboration between Takamura Coffee Roasters and NAMI NO OTO BREWING in Minamiawaji, Hyogo Prefecture, a limited-time Coffee IPA has arrived. The release date is April 14. It is being offered as a limited item available only on Awaji Island.
The key point this time is the ingredient selection, which only a coffee specialty shop could provide. The beer uses Brazilian specialty coffee beans that won 17th place in TASTE OF HARVEST Brazil. Takamura roasted them lightly, then used them generously in the brewing process.
How the flavor was designed
The finished beer is characterized by a strong coffee-derived aroma at the core, along with a moderate bitterness and a clean note reminiscent of iced coffee. On top of that, the fruitiness and grassy freshness of hops layer in, while the finish leaves a caramel-like roasted aroma.
As a hidden accent, a pinch of Onogoro Shizuku Shio, salt from Awaji Island, is used. The salt smooths the mouthfeel and brings out the character of the ingredients even more clearly.
The character of a brewery in Minamiawaji
Nami no Oto Brewing is a brewery that opened in June 2023 in the Keino-Matsubara area of southwestern Awaji Island. While making use of ingredients from Awaji Island, it has promoted a regionally circulatory style of manufacturing, such as returning spent grain to the community as chicken feed. For this collaboration as well, Takamura staff visited the brewery on the day of the brew and took part in the production process.
The brewery’s setup, with the married couple handling everything from production to shipping, suits this project well, as it carefully handles local ingredients. Rather than simply clashing the personalities of coffee and beer, the beer also stands out for balancing drinkability and depth through adjustments with salt and oats.
The label and where to buy it
The label is based on gray, the image color of Takamura’s Awaji Island store, and features a coffee bean-themed character created by Nami no Oto Brewing’s dedicated designer. It has been finished as a playful design suitable for gifts and souvenirs.
This drink combines the local feel of a brewery grown in Minamiawaji with the precise flavor design of specialty coffee, making it a new product that clearly reflects the strengths of both sides.
