Five-day holiday opening

THE FARMHOUSE in Yamanouchi, Nagano, will extend its usual schedule for the holiday period and open from September 18 through 22. Hours are 13:00–20:00 from September 18 to 21, followed by 11:00–18:00 on September 22. The beer pub is associated with Shiga Kogen Beer and offers a setting where guests can enjoy its beers amid the mountain atmosphere of Shiga Kogen.

Mini curry featuring local ingredients

The featured bar food includes a mini saba spice curry made with rice and spelt wheat from Tamamura Honten. The tomato-based curry combines mackerel, spices, mustard, local potatoes, and nemagaridake, a bent-root bamboo shoot familiar in the Yamanouchi area. The dish brings together the savory flavor of mackerel, gentle acidity, spice, and the texture of bamboo shoots.

The rice is cooked with Koshihikari and spelt wheat grown at Tamamura Honten. Spelt is also used in Shiga Kogen Beer’s Yuru Blue spelt and House Lager, making the dish a direct expression of the brewery’s connection to local agriculture. Its mini size is designed for enjoying alongside a beer.

Savory snacks and dessert

“Kitazawa Tofu Shop chilled tofu with green-pepper meat miso” pairs firm cotton tofu with a richly seasoned mixture of ground pork and green pepper. The substantial but not overly heavy flavor should work well with a crisp pint.

For dessert, the salted caramel cheesecake combines bitter caramel folded into cheesecake with sweet caramel syrup and a touch of salt. THE FARMHOUSE also plans to recommend cozy, a small-bottle series from barrel-aged Yamabushi, whose cognac-barrel character adds fruitiness and woody complexity.

Food availability may change during the five-day run, with some items potentially selling out or being replaced later in the period. Guests should check the pub’s official updates before visiting.
