Kirari Brewery Releases "Salt Lemon Ale" with Yamaga Lemon and Amakusa Salt
Kirari Brewery announced its new "Salt Lemon Ale" on Instagram at 20:05 on February 27, 2026. A seasonal beer combining lemon from Kumamoto's Yamaga and salt from Amakusa, it will go on sale in stores starting February 28. It is notable for its aromatic profile and restrained bitterness.
On a post late on February 27, Kirari Brewery (Kumamoto) announced "Salt Lemon Ale" as a new addition to its lineup. The post promoted it as "salty and refreshing, a new kind of deliciousness," and said retail sales would begin the following day, February 28.
The new product uses plenty of lemon from Yamaga and finishes with salt from Amakusa to sharpen the aftertaste. By layering the fresh aroma and acidity of lemon with a gentle mineral note from the salt, the brewery created an ale with more depth on the palate. Its specs are ABV 5% and 330 ml. The flavor indicators are low bitterness (★★☆☆☆), high aroma (★★★★☆), and low sweetness (★☆☆☆☆), making it a balanced beer that's easy to enjoy both with food and on its own.
Based in Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Kirari Brewery is a small-batch brewery that continues to make use of local adjuncts. It has specialized in turning local character into beer, with offerings such as Gakuma Tea IPA and Japanese Chestnut Romance Ale. This Salt Lemon Ale is another new release in the brewery's style, distilling ingredients from Yamaga and Amakusa into a single glass.
A design that puts citrus aroma front and center while using saltiness to create a crisp finish also fits the refreshing-beer trend that gains momentum from early spring through early summer. For craft beer fans who want to taste Kumamoto's terroir, this is a new release worth checking out.
