Tamamura Honten’s Shiga Kogen Beer has added 'Ikkyo Ryotoku' in a 330ml format to its online shop. The beer starts from 'Ishikko Nitori,' originally created in collaboration with Canada’s Brasserie Dieu du Ciel!, and then goes through maturation in Ichiro's Malt barrels. This marks its third appearance, following a four-year gap.
For this release, the base beer was brewed in February 2020 and left in barrel for about three and a half years. The beer clocks in at 14.5% ABV and 89 IBU, with a style listed as barrel-aged imperial dark saison. According to the product description, it layers barrel character, hop presence, roast notes, and saison-driven fruitiness into a complex profile with hints of raisins, prunes, and banana.
Despite its intensity, the beer still keeps the dry structure associated with saison. The result is described as both rich and surprisingly smooth, making it a beer that works almost like a digestif. At 330ml, JPY 1,100, and limited to 2,858 bottles, it is a release that reflects Shiga Kogen Beer’s usual mix of experimentation and precision.
