A New Upcycled Porter From an Airport Brewery

Okinawa's HELIOS NAHA airport Brewery introduced a new release on January 5, 2026: The Bread Beer / The Bread Beer [Porter].

This beer is a collaboration that makes use of French bread that would otherwise be discarded because it is "too holey" or "unevenly shaped" during Tokyo Rusk's production process. It is noteworthy as an effort that brings the idea of reducing food loss into a craft beer recipe.

The flavor centers on the toasty character of roasted malt and the rich aroma derived from bread. The style is Porter, and the alcohol content is 5%. According to the introduction, bitterness, aroma, and body are all set toward the middle range, making it designed to be approachable, not too heavy, and easy to choose for a drink at the airport or as a pairing with food.

In addition, customers who order the Bread Beer receive one Tokyo Rusk piece (either Caramel Amande or Aomori-grown garlic). The appeal is that you can experience layers of roasted aroma not only with the beer on its own, but also by pairing it with rusk varieties that differ in sweetness and savoriness.

The shop is a brewpub located at 150 Kagamizu, Naha City, in the airside-connected terminal on the 4th floor of Naha Airport. With a location that is easy to stop by before or after travel, you can enjoy a limited airport-brewed beer along with the open feel unique to Okinawa's gateway. It is a new release worth checking out as a meaningful drink for both the start and the end of a journey.
