The Kanazawa, Ishikawa-based brewery BREW CLASSIC announced on Instagram a collaboration beer for the 9th anniversary of HOP TAP SHOP in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. According to the post, this beer is BREW CLASSIC’s first sour. It has been crafted as an easy-drinking, fruit-forward beer for the hotter season ahead.

The beer introduced is “Hatsuratsu! Berry Roll.” The style is Fruited Sour, with an ABV of 5.5%. It uses Pilsner and Wheat Malt for the malts, Nelson Sauvin for the hops, and Philly Sour yeast, plus Cranberry, Raspberry, and Cara Cara Orange. One especially notable point is that a total of 120 kg of cranberry, raspberry, and orange puree was added during fermentation and maturation.

The post also noted that this sour was tapped at the local Kanazawa event Spice and Foam. With a structure that layers berry-driven sweet-tartness with bright citrus, the description also mentioned that it pairs well as a rosé-wine-like food-pairing drink. While it has the distinct character of craft beer, it is likely to catch the attention of anyone looking for a flavor with clearly defined fruit character.

BREW CLASSIC, as a brewery in Kanazawa, continues to share new flavors through local events and collaborations with other shops. Limited beers like this one, timed to a shop’s milestone, are ones to watch as a drink to enjoy together with the atmosphere of the occasion.
