Mogura Beer Camp Brings Underground-Aged Craft Beer to Doai Station
Mogura Beer Camp will take place at Doai Station in Minakami, Gunma, offering craft beer aged in the station’s underground platform. The event combines local beer, mountain scenery, and the distinctive atmosphere of Japan’s famous “mole station.”
Katashina Brewing, operated by Blumen LLC, has shared information about Mogura Beer Camp, a craft beer event taking place around Doai Station on October 3, 2026. The source post shows the venue under clear skies, highlighting the appeal of enjoying local beer amid the mountain landscape at the foot of Mount Tanigawa.
The event will be held at DOAIVILLAGE, next to JR Joetsu Line’s Doai Station. Normally centered around overnight guests, the venue will open to beer fans for this special occasion. Doai Station is known as Japan’s “mole station” because its outbound platform lies deep underground, reached by descending 486 steps from the station building.
The main attraction is craft beer stored and aged in the underground platform. Its relatively stable underground environment is used to allow the beer to rest before serving, creating an opportunity to explore how aging can affect body, roundness, and depth. Tasting the beers while learning about the underground storage process is expected to be a highlight for craft beer enthusiasts.
Visitors can also enjoy the natural surroundings and local atmosphere. The station building is home to Café Mogura, a retro café adapted from the former station office, adding another layer to the experience with its railway heritage and quiet mountain setting.
Based in Katashina Village, Katashina Brewing produces beers inspired by local ingredients and a range of brewing styles. Mogura Beer Camp offers a distinctive way to encounter Gunma craft beer—through the connection between mountains, railways, and underground maturation.
