Posted By John on April 25th, 2009

We headed west to Thunderhead Brewing in Kearney, NE. A friendly pub with great beer and pretzels the size of your head. That is our nice way of saying you should visit.

Beers of the Week:

Beer: Golden Frau Honey Wheat
Brewery: Thunderhead Brewing
Notes: We tried three variations of this brew. All of them out of a can. A fine lighter beer with a sweetness and clean finish. Remember to respect the Frau and its 7.5% ABV. Deceptively smooth it can cause a little trouble walking if you aren’t careful. The other good news is that this beer is available in cans in Lincoln as of this post. Currently it is available at the Still and the Hy-Vee on 49th and O. If your skeptical about beer in cans listen to the show and learn why it is almost the perfect beer container.

Beer: Tiny Tim 2008
Brewery: Thunderhead Brewing
Notes: A favorite of the group is Thunderhead’s Tiny Tim. Brewed especially for the holidays this gold medal winning brew is always different and always exceptional. The spices in the beer make it taste like Christmas and the smooth sweet flavors make everything ok.

Beer:
Ginger Ale
Brewery: Thunderhead Brewing
Notes: An unuasal brew unlike any other beer we’ve had. The hops have been replaced with ginger. This gives the beer a strong ginger taste and aroma. The ginger taste has mellowed pleasantly since we first tried it in October of last year. It gives the beer a more balanced flavor and a enjoyable overall sweetness.

Episode 129 – Lucky Bucket Brewing Co.

Posted By John on February 27th, 2009

This week we had the pleasure of having Zac and Jason from Lucky Bucket Brewing Co. It is Nebraska’s newest brewery and if the first two beers are any indication, they are going to be big.

Beers of the Week:
Beer:
Pre-Prohibition Lager
Brewery: Lucky Bucket Brewing Co.
Notes: Nice malty opening transitioning to a great hop flavor and a clean finish. The hop character is complex and subtle with citrus and floral flavors. Great conversion beer.  It is available now. Start looking for it in you live in Nebraska. If your local bar doesn’t have it ask for it.

Beer: Concentrated Evil
Brewery: Lucky Bucket Brewing Co.
Notes: Complex isn’t even the word. This beer is aged in Chardonnay casks and made with local honey. It is dark as a moonless night. Coming in around 10% ABV the alcohol is not noticeable making this a very dangerous beer. It will be available later this year and we recommend finding it if you can.
