We headed up to La Vista to visit the new location of Nebraska’s newest brewery. Lucky Bucket Brewing Company has been Brewing since 2009. We were excited to visit the brewery as they also house Sòlas Distillery. Sòlas is currently the only Nebraska distiller with a product on the market (Joss Vodka).

Posted By John on May 15th, 2009

nogne_o_bc_medThis week we sampled three dark beer from Norway. All three good solid dark beers. In the group was a double extreme imperial wheat stout.

As promised a far more inspiration song from Jonathan Coulton this week. We featured his song A Talk With George. Good stuff, puts things into perspective.

Haandbryggeriet – Dark Force

Posted By John on May 15th, 2009

hand_brewery_darkforce_bottle_smallBeer: Dark Force

Brewery: Haandbryggeriet in Drammen, Norway

Style: Double extreme imperial wheat stout

ABV: 9.0%

Reviewed:
12-May-2009 on Episode 140

Appearance: Black with a dark tan head.

Aroma: Caramel, coffee, chocolate and a little alcohol.

Taste: Bitter coffee, chocolate. Even though the alcohol was perceptible in the aroma it was not in the taste.

Mouthfeel: Silky. We don’t know if it was a result of the wheat, but it was interesting.

Aftertaste: Bitter roasted coffee with a Dry finish.

Overall: Interesting beer that is its own style. Well done and we reccomend giving it a go.

Notes: Our bottle had a plug of sediment stopping up the bottle. As best we can tell it in no way comprimised the taste. Solid smooth beer. Great if you want a dark beer with a ligther body. Would go well with a slow cooked beef roast.
