Nothing Under 10% ABV – Podcast

Posted By John on May 22nd, 2009

urthel_bc_smallTrying three beers at 11% and higher ABV is probably a questionable practice, but we did it anyway.  In order of ABV and tasting; Quadrium Ale from Urthel Samaranth (11%), Belzebuth from Brasserie Grain D’Orge (13%), and The Beast from Avery Brewing (16.31%).

For music we pulled a band that we’ve enjoyed many times. The Dust Rhinos and their song Here’s to You. Think Budweiser’s real men of genius ads in catchy song form. Good stuff.

Grain D’Orge – Belzebuth

Posted By John on May 22nd, 2009

belzebuth_bottle_xsmallBeer: Belzebuth

Brewery: Brasserie Grain D’Orge in Hombourg, France

Style: Golden Ale

ABV: 13%

Reviewed: 20-May-2009 on Episode 141

Appearance: It has a deep yellow color with a white head.

Aroma: Sweet malty aroma with butter and alcohol round out the aroma on this beer.

Taste: Fairly sweet malty flavor and buttery flavors are both overpowered by the alcohol.

Mouthfeel: It has a light body with a aggressive alcoholic warmth.

Aftertaste: Alcoholic aftertaste

Overall: Alcohol is the dominant flavor on this one.

Notes: Aggressively alcoholic with out the subtleties of the other two beers featured this week. So unfortunately not nearly as enjoyable.
