Beer: The Beast

Brewery: Avery Brewing in Boulder, Colorado

Style: Grand Crue

ABV: 16.31% When your talking this high of alcohol hundredths of a percentage matter. To put that in perspective that’s around four shots (1oz) of whiskey. For the home brewers out there the original gravity is 1.135%

Reviewed: 20-May-2009 on Episode 141

Appearance: Brown color with a cream head.

Aroma: Raisin, brown sugar, oak, alcohol, molasses are all in the aroma on this beer.

Taste: The aroma gives a good idea of the taste on this beer with similar notes of molasses, raisin, oak, and alcohol in the flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a definite warmth from the alcohol.

Aftertaste: Lingering sweetness and alcoholic tastes.

Overall: Well made with nice complexities that make it a fine beer.

Notes: A strong beer with great flavors and a pleasant alcohol warmth if you enjoy big beers. This is a sipping beer. We thought it would go great with a cigar. Further tests proved that to be true. On another note Marissa did feel the strong alcoholic nature of this beer made it undrinkable. This is something to keep in mind if purchasing this beer for others.
