Brewery: Nøgne Ø (Aka: Nogne O) in Grimstad, Norway
Style: Coffee stout
ABV: 7.5%
Reviewed: 12-May-2009 on Episode 140
Appearance: Black as night with a thick tan head
Aroma: Strong coffee, almost espresso aroma. It also had an underlying sweetness.
Taste: Coffee flavor were dominant with chocolate and prune undertones.
Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation with medium body and a creamy feel.
Aftertaste: Bitter coffee finish. Very similar to the finish on a good strong cup of coffee.
Overall: Great beer that delivers what it promises.
Notes: If I drank beer in the early morning, this is what I would want. It would also be a great complimant to a cheesecake or other rich desert.

Haandbryggeriet – Dark Force
Beer: Dark Force
Brewery: Haandbryggeriet in Drammen, Norway
Style: Double extreme imperial wheat stout
ABV: 9.0%
Reviewed: 12-May-2009 on Episode 140
Appearance: Black with a dark tan head.
Aroma: Caramel, coffee, chocolate and a little alcohol.
Taste: Bitter coffee, chocolate. Even though the alcohol was perceptible in the aroma it was not in the taste.
Mouthfeel: Silky. We don’t know if it was a result of the wheat, but it was interesting.
Aftertaste: Bitter roasted coffee with a Dry finish.
Overall: Interesting beer that is its own style. Well done and we reccomend giving it a go.
Notes: Our bottle had a plug of sediment stopping up the bottle. As best we can tell it in no way comprimised the taste. Solid smooth beer. Great if you want a dark beer with a ligther body. Would go well with a slow cooked beef roast.

Luck Drink Co – Lucky Beer
Beer: Lucky Beer
Brewery: Lucky Drink Co. in Australia
ABV: 4.8%
Reviewed: 06-May-09 on episode 140
Appearance: Straw color with a loose white head.
Aroma: Light malt with a slight aceldaldehyde trace.
Taste: Light malt flavors. Low noble hop taste in the finish. Trace aceldaldehyde, which in this case does not detract from the taste.
Mouthfeel: light body with a high level of carbonation. Kelvin described it as a champagne feel.
Aftertaste: Overall clean finish with a slight lingering malt sweetness
Overall: A well made light lager.
Notes: A surprisingly enjoyable light lager. We were skeptical of his beer. A light lager in a green bottle, albeit an admittedly spiffy one, is usually not a good thing.

Sierra Nevada – Torpedo Extra IPA

Appearance: Amber with dense white head.
Aroma: The hops aroma come through in the form of grapefruit, orange and floral aromas. There is also a slight sweet malt aroma underlying the hops.
Taste: A sweet malt flavor starts out the taste. Then the hops dominate the flavor. They produce tastes of grapefruit, orange, some floral tastes and a slight pine flavor.
Mouthfeel: Medium light body with medium carbonation.
Aftertaste: There is a lingering taste of citrus in the finish.
Overall: A solid brew with a great variety of hop flavors.
Notes: Nice hoppy beer. We strongly recommend it with spicy foods and a warm day, but it’s nice by itself as well.
