Episode 192- From Russia With Love
Every once in a great while we get to be timely with our beer selections. This week the largest exchange of spies between Russia and the US since the cold war. To celebrate we enjoyed a Russian beer in the US, Baltika’s Export Lager, better known as #7. See it even has a cool spy like number instead of a proper name.
It was a clean lager that even at cellar temperature had no noticeable flaws. The flavors started with a nice sweetness transitioning to a light floral hop flavor with a crisp dry finish. We think Baltika made the right choice to protect those flavors by exporting this beer in a can instead of the green “flavor killer” bottles.
If you like good crisp lager give this Russian agent a go.

Episode 191 – Stop Making Sense Imperial Bock
What is in a name. Today a lot of names and descriptions are deceptive. They attempt to persuade you to buy something and fail to live up the promise of the name. Not so with TRiNiTY Brewing Company’s Stop Making Sense Imperial Bock. Coming in at 10% ABV this beer could have you not making sense rather quickly.
The beer itself is pleasantly sweet with some caramel and coffee notes. The aroma smells like a loaf of fresh baked bread. What scares us is not what we noticed rather what was absent. There was no alcoholic warmth. That makes this a dangerous beer. With no early warning system to tell you how much your consuming, you might stand up, fall down, go boom.

Episode 190 – The Other Golden City, CO Brewery
Sometimes you can’t compete on size or price. Sometimes you have to compete on quality. Golden City Brewery shares its home town with a little brewer know as Coors. They can’t take them on capacity or price and probably don’t want to, but in quality they have found their battlefield.
We tried their Mad Molly Brown Ale and Lookout Stout. The Lookout Stout was good and in general what you would expect. The Mad Molly Brown was an amazing brew. Far more complex than we generally expected from a brown. Sweet caramel and coffee flavors mingled with roasted almost nutty flavors. One of the best brown ales that we’ve ever had.

Epsiode 189 – Colorado Local Lager
One of our panelists found this beer while touring the Coors Brewery in Golden Colorado. As the name suggests Colorado Local Lager is intended for local Colorado market. On an interesting note the Coors name appears nowhere on the bottle.
The beer itself is a nice amber color. Some malty sweetness with a undertone of a light hop flavor. Compared to the silver bullet this beer has quite a bit of flavor. Compared to most craft beers it is a bit mild.
