We headed up to La Vista to visit the new location of Nebraska’s newest brewery. Lucky Bucket Brewing Company has been Brewing since 2009. Episode 155 – The Oaked Episode

Posted By John on August 28th, 2009

We picked up Tommyknocker’s Oaked Butt Head Bock, partly because we had never seen a beer described as “oaked”. Tuned out an “oaked” beer is similar to its bourbon barrel cousin, which is not a bad thing at all.

Tommy Knocker Brewing Co. – Oaked Butt Head Bock

Posted By John on August 28th, 2009

Beer: Oaked Butt Head Bock

Brewery: Tommyknocker Brewery in Idaho Springs, CO

ABV%: 8.10%

Reviewed: 28-Aug-2009 on Episode 155

Appearance: Brown with an off white head.

Aroma: Woody and sweet.

Taste: The oak flavor comes through as well as the malty sweetness you would expect from a bock. There are also undertones of smoke and a little light caramel.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium carbonation and a little warmth from the alcohol.

Aftertaste: The woody oak like flavor and the sweetness linger for a while after a drink.

Overall: Well made beer that with a nice balance of the woody flavors and the sweetness from the beer.

Best enjoyed: in moderation as a desert to BBQ or with a cigar.

Grades from our Panel:

John:       B+    Brian:     B         Ryan:   A-
Anne:      B      Marissa: B+       Kelvin:  B+

Overall:   B+
